The Southern West Virginia Adult Soccer League (SWVASL) is a non-profit, adult soccer league headquartered in Charleston, West Virginia. Games are played at various sites in the Metro Valley. The league started play in the fall of 1975, and is the oldest and most competitive in the state. The SWVASL is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), and is a member of the West Virginia Soccer Association (WVSA).
Currently the league has 27 teams and over 400 registered players. Competition runs during two seasons: the Spring season usually runs from March through July; the Fall season usually runs from August through November.
A Division - Open to men and women over the age of 16. (Players under
age 18 must fill out an additional form with the West Virginia Soccer
Association, see Forms page). Games are 90 minutes, full-sided, and all
legal tackles are permitted.
B Division - Men over 30, Women over 16 (Players under age 18 must fill
out an additional form with the West Virginia Soccer Association, see
Forms page). No slide-tackling permitted. Teams must have at least
one woman on the field, or play short-handed. (Max. 10 men on the field
at a time). Each B Division team may have two male “crossover”
players who also play in the A Division. Games are 90 minutes.
C Division - Men over 35, Women over 16 (Players under age 18 must fill out an additional form with the West Virginia Soccer Association, see Forms page). No slide-tackling permitted. Teams must have 2 women on the field at all times or play short-handed. (Max. 9 men on the field at a time). Each C Division team may have two male “crossover” players who also play in the B Division. Games are 90 minutes.
